Organization Description

Shore Legal Access is a nonprofit organization that supports and assists individuals and families who are unable to afford representation in civil legal matters and provides connections to community services. Our vision is for all people on the Eastern Shore to be empowered to resolve civil legal issues and our core values are integrity, service orientation, compassion, professionalism, respect, dignity and collaboration.

Program Description:

SLA connects low-income individuals who are involved in difficult family matters with an attorney who can guide them through these legal processes and often provide representation in court.
SLA assists with:

  • Divorce
  • Custody
  • Adoption
  • Visitation
  • Third Party Custody (Kinship Care)

Program Description:

SLA offers seniors personal, confidential legal advice and counseling. Clients can obtain wills, powers of attorney, and advance medical directives free of charge. SLA strongly encourages all seniors to obtain important end-of-life documents.
SLA also offers assistance with:

  • Real Property/Deed Issues
  • Adult Guardianship
  • Senior Housing Issues, including Landlord/Tenant
  • Estate Administration
  • Consumer Debt and Collection Issues
  • Taxes and Liens
  • Issues Faced by Seniors with Disabilities

SLA assists people struggling with legal matters preventing them from achieving economic stability. SLA strives to educate clients about household budgeting, renting and buying a home, expungement and navigating unemployment in order to prevent unnecessary legal issues.
